- Puente de la Mujer (Women's Bridge) Azucena Villaflor y Juana Manuela Gorriti (c 400 m from UCA). Right on the channel and some 400 m north of the UCA San José building (see map), you will find this interesting hanging bridge designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. The bridge has an unusual structure and is particularly beautiful with nighttime illumination. Close to the bridge is the museum ship ARA Presidente Sarmiento, which was built in 19th century as a training ship for the Argentine Navy. There are several good restaurants in the area, including La Parolaccia (Italian) and Puerto Cristal (Grill / International cuisine).
- Reserva Ecológica (Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve). ( 300 m from Hotel Madero) If you make a left at the exit of Hotel Madero and keep walking on RV Peñaloza St for about 300 m, you will reach the entrance of this reserve (see map). The Reserva Ecológica is open from 8 to 19 h, and is covered by a mixture of local and exotic vegetation. It is a good place to see birds and the skyline of the Puerto Madero district. Right in front of the entrance, there is an interesting set of sculptures called "Nereids Fountain", built by sculptress Lola Mora.
- San Telmo district (c 1000 m from Hotel Madero) San Telmo is the oldest barrio (neighborhood) of Buenos Aires. Make a right when you exit Hotel Madero, keep walking on Peñaloza St, cross the channel and Alicia Moreau de Justo Avenue. Now Peñaloza St. changed its name into Estados Unidos St. After 5 blocks (and crossing 2 busy avenues: Huergo and Paseo Colón), you will reach Defensa Street (See map for details). If you make a left on Defensa, and walk 2 blocks until you reach Humberto I, you will find Plaza Dorrego, which is at the heart of San Telmo. San Telmo is characterized by its colonial buildings, cafes, tango parlors and antique shops line the cobblestone streets. San Telmo's attractions include old churches (e.g. San Pedro Telmo), museums, antique stores and a semi-permanent antique fair (Feria de Antigüedades) in the main public square, Plaza Dorrego. There are several restaurants in the area, including a vegetarian option that uses to get good reviews (Naturaleza Sabia, Balcarce 958, between Estados Unidos and Carlos Calvo).
- Plaza de Mayo (c 1500 m from Hotel Madero) Plaza de Mayo is the main square of Buenos Aires, flanked by some of the principal city landmarks, including the Casa Rosada, the Cathedral and Cabildo. Make a right when you exit Hotel Madero, keep walking on Peñaloza St, cross the channel and Alicia Moreau de Justo Avenue. Now Peñaloza St. changed its name into Estados Unidos St. After 5 blocks (and crossing 2 busy avenues: Huergo and Paseo Colón), you will reach Defensa Street (See map for details). Make a right on defense and walk down 8 blocks until you reach Plaza de Mayo. Plaza de Mayo has been a hub of political activity during the history of Argentina. The main buildings surrounding the plaza include: Casa Rosada (the office of the President of Argentina), the Cabildo, which was the epicenter of the 1810 May Revolution that marked the beginning of the Argentina War of Independence, and the Metropolitan Cathedral of Buenos Aires. An interesting traditional cafe near Plaza de Mayo is "Café Tortoni" (Av. de Mayo 825; wikilink here), some 5 blocks to the west of the Plaza, on Avenida de Mayo. Also on Av. de Mayo, crossing Av. 9 de Julio, there is another traditional café called "Los 36 Billares" ( Av. de Mayo 1265 , between Talcahuano and Libertad). There are several interesting buildings and places to see along Avenida de Mayo, including the Palacio de Barolo (Av. de Mayo 1370) and the Plaza Congreso (Congressional Plaza ), at the west end of the avenue and facing the Congress Building, which houses the Argentine National Congress.
